Implementing Provider of Positive Behaviour Support

Positive Behaviour Support focuses on evidence- based strategies and person- centred supports that address the needs of the person with disability and the underlying causes of behaviours of concern, while safeguarding the dignity and quality of life of people with disability who require specialist behaviour support. Maintaining and upholding their Human Rights as per the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. More information can be found at:

It has been a very exciting year in PBS. What is it was the first question, in a nutshell PBS is a new way of addressing behaviours that uphold an individual’s human rights and dignity.

The overall goal of PBS is to improve the quality of life of the individual and all of the supports both informal and formal that assist that person. Addressing the use of restrictive practices with the view of using the least restrictive for the least amount of time. Eventually building skills in the systems of support so that restrictive practices can be eliminated  as difficult behaviours reduce and positive meaningful behaviours are encouraged. The true understanding of PBS is a process and all staff at Accessability  are at the beginning of this exciting journey .
